Thumbs up Malifaux at Area 51

I joined Karl Pajak at Area 51 today for a learning game of Malifaux.

This is a fantasy game with different factions combining magic, hand-to-hand, and distance weapons, in a skirmish type of game. See:

www.wyrd-games.net

It is turn based with initiative, and uses a card system for combat. Seems to take a bit to get the hang of it but I thoroughly enjoyed the game, taking Karl to the cleaners.

Now once Karl gets his figures painted, it will greatly enhance play.

I picked up a couple of figures at Area 51 while we gamed and have just about finished "Victoria - Sword Mistress" (image attached - not quite finished).

The figures are very good but IMHO, are not for the beginner modeler. So far, the figures I bought require drilling and pins, as the sculpters did not give enough foresight to attaching this piece or that piece.

For example, in the figure attached, the hand & sword (one piece) needed to be drilled & pinned to the wrist, as all the figure has is a flat edge connecting the two. Such a connection will not hold up over time with a gaming figure. Also the head had to be drilled and pinned to the torso for the same reason.

Other than that, I give the figures an A++. I have some more on order, along with the rules, and will comment as I find out more.

Here is another figure; "Misaki" for Malifaux. Once again, the figure is A++, but the head needs to be drilled & pinned for a secure fitting.

Can't wait to get the rest I have on order. It's rather refreshing to paint something other than historicals. Some others might enjoy it as well for a change of pace.
